A Well-Travelled Little Building

Once upon a time, there was a little train station nestled in the heart of Woodstock, NY. Curiously, there were no tracks running alongside it, or through the town, but to those who knew it’s history, this was just one of the many curious things about the little depot.

Built around 1869, the Brown’s Station depot was once the “jewel” of the Ulster & Delaware Railroad. It served the Catskills in that location until 1912, when the valley was submerged by the Ashokan Reservoir. The little depot was then moved to the neighboring town of Ashokan to continue it’s service, until 1954, when the U&D Railroad ceased operations. Moved to yet another location, the station sat, defunct, until 1970, when the late Victor Basil adopted it and moved it to it’s final home in Woodstock.

This well-travelled little building, with all of it’s eccentricities, odd-angles, and original details, became Station Bar & Curio in 2016. Instead of being a shipping hub for New York concrete, lumber and other cargo, it now welcomes locals and visitors looking for NY craft beers and spirits. Instead of timetables and ticket booths, it’s walls are full of local art, artifacts and ephemera. Instead of waiting areas, you’ll find comfy nooks and crannies that’ll make you feel like you’re in a well-loved living room.

We opened this place as space for community and conversations, and as a showcase for the best that the area has to offer. Whether it’s a fantastic local beer or whiskey, or a band jamming on the patio, or a friendship struck up over some delicious craft cocktails; there might just be something for everyone. And ALL are welcome here.

We hope to see you soon!

Love,

Us.
